Where you learn the art of self-promotion and how to play the media game.

Book PR University is the brainchild of Joanne McCall, president of McCall Public Relations. Joanne established this school for authors, including self-published authors, who may not have the budget to hire a full-time or part-time publicist, and are motivated to promote themselves and want to learn how it’s done.

Book PR University offers a series of classes, teleclasses, CDs, DVDs, in addition to other activities geared to authors who want to learn:

  • Top ten ways to grab a media person’s attention
  • What you must include in a media kit
  • What kinds of materials go into a media kit
  • How to write press releases, cover letters, and media pitches
  • How to determine whether your publicity campaign should be national, regional, local, or grassroots
  • How to generate a targeted media list
  • How to figure out which editors, reporters, and producers to go to
  • Best ways to approach different types of media
  • Common mistakes authors make when pitching ideas to the media that mark them as amateurs
  • How to prepare for a media interview
  • Insider tips for radio, television, and print interviews

Book PR University offers introductory and general-information classes taught by Joanne McCall, as well as topical classes hosted by Joanne that feature special guests: such as radio and TV producers, acquiring editors from major publishing houses, media coaches, publicity writers, and others who provide instruction and advice in their area of expertise.

How the Teleclasses Work
You don’t have to live near Joanne to benefit from her media insider knowledge. When you sign up for a Book PR University teleclass (see Classes and Sign-up), all you need is a quiet room and a telephone. Just call the phone number that admits you into the “conference room.” The classes last about an hour and include time at the end to ask questions, talk about challenges, and share thoughts and experiences with the other participants.

Thank you for taking the time to fill out this questionnaire. I would be happy to look this over, take a look at your Web site and whatever other materials you have for me, and then we could schedule a _ hour phone consultation during which we can go over the questionnaire and discuss your needs. The fee for that consultation is $85 (see below to make a web payment). That cost also covers some of my time assessing your situation and thinking about possibilities.

Warm regards,
Joanne
